How to Watermark a PDF in 3 Steps

Stamp a PDF without a PDF editor.

  1. Step 1: Upload Your PDF

Drag the PDF onto the page, or pick it from your device, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. A PDF that needs a password to open has to have the password removed first.

  2. Step 2: Add Your Watermark

Type Confidential, Draft, your company name or a © line, or upload your logo. Set the size, color, opacity, angle and position on the page.

  3. Step 3: Download Your Stamped PDF

Apply and finish, then download the PDF. It stays a PDF, and your original file is not changed.

What you can do

Watermark Every Page

On Premium and Ultimate the watermark goes on every page of the PDF in one go, whether it has 2 pages or 200. The free plan watermarks the first page.

Draft, Confidential or Your Brand

Mark proposals Confidential, add Draft to working copies, or stamp a portfolio with your logo. The ©, ® and ™ buttons add the symbols to a text watermark.

Subtle or Bold

Set a low opacity for a background mark that does not get in the way of reading, or make it bold. Rotate it across the page, or tile it so there is no clean area to crop.

Questions people ask

Can I watermark a multi-page PDF?
Yes. On Premium and Ultimate the watermark goes on every page automatically. The free Basic plan watermarks the first page, so you can check how it looks before you upgrade.
What types of PDF documents can I watermark?
Proposals, contracts, ebooks, portfolios, reports and other standard PDFs. A PDF that needs a password to open has to have the password removed first. Word documents (.docx) can be watermarked too, and they stay .docx.
Will the watermark cover the text in my document?
You control the opacity and position. A low opacity, around 15–30%, placed diagonally across the page reads as a background mark and leaves the text easy to read.
Can I add both text and a logo watermark to my PDF?
Yes. Add several watermarks in one step, for example your company logo in the corner and a Confidential stamp across the middle of each page.
